Hacienda del Álamo Golf Resort: Everything You Need to Know in 2026
Discover life at Hacienda del Álamo: a premier golf resort in Murcia featuring championship golf, modern villas, and a vibrant international community.
A Resort with History — and a New Chapter
Hacienda del Álamo opened in 2006, built around an 18-hole championship course designed by the legendary Dave Thomas. Located between Murcia and Cartagena in southeastern Spain, the resort was conceived as a self-contained residential community — gated, private, and wrapped in the kind of silence you only find in the Spanish interior.
For years, the resort grew steadily. Families from across Europe settled in. A hotel opened. A Spanish Village with restaurants, shops, and professional services took shape. Then, like many Spanish developments, the financial crisis slowed progress.
What changed everything was the arrival of Hozono Global Group as the new owner of the golf course, clubhouse, and surrounding development plots. Their investment signalled a clear commitment: Hacienda del Álamo was not just being maintained — it was being reimagined.
Today, with over 1,000 new homes planned through the Omala Residences and La Hacienda projects, the resort is experiencing its most significant period of growth since it first opened.
The Golf Course
The championship course remains the heart of the resort. Designed by Dave Thomas — the architect behind courses at The Belfry and La Manga Club — it stretches over 6,700 metres from the back tees, making it one of the longest in southeastern Spain.
The layout is relatively flat, which makes it walkable for golfers of all ages, but the wide fairways are deceptive. Water hazards, strategically placed bunkers, and large undulating greens mean the course rewards precision as much as power. Holes 8 and 9, which curve around a central lake, are widely considered the signature stretch.
Beyond the main course, the resort offers a 6-hole Academy course — ideal for beginners and juniors — plus a two-tier, 50-bay driving range, short game practice areas, and dedicated putting greens. Professional coaching is available through the on-site academy.
Green fees for resort residents are significantly discounted, and annual memberships represent excellent value compared to equivalent courses on the Costa del Sol or Costa Blanca.
What’s Inside the Resort
One of the genuine strengths of Hacienda del Álamo is that it functions as a self-contained community. You can live here without needing to leave for everyday essentials.
Sport and Fitness
The resort’s sports facilities extend well beyond golf. There are floodlit padel and tennis courts, a multi-sport pitch for basketball and five-a-side football, a bowls green (popular with the British community), and pétanque lanes. A modern fitness suite operates seven days a week, with weekly group exercise classes including yoga, Pilates, and circuits.
Cycling and walking trails weave through the resort and into the surrounding countryside, and the Sierra Espuña Natural Park — one of Murcia’s best-kept hiking secrets — is a 30-minute drive away.
The Spanish Village
The commercial heart of the resort is a pedestrianised village square surrounded by restaurants, bars, a supermarket, bakery, hairdresser, and various professional services including legal advisors, property managers, and a real estate office.
All commercial units in the Spanish Village have recently been sold, and as the resort population grows with new developments, residents can expect a wave of new openings over the coming years — more dining options, boutique retail, and lifestyle services.
Hotel and Spa
The 4-star Sheraton-branded hotel (now operated under the ONA Hotels umbrella) sits at the centre of the resort. It includes a spa with thermal circuit, treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, a gym, and several restaurants and bars that are open to residents as well as hotel guests.
The hotel is also a practical asset for homeowners: visiting friends and family have somewhere to stay, and the restaurant and pool facilities add to daily life on the resort without the cost of maintaining them yourself.
The Community
Hacienda del Álamo has a genuinely international community. British residents make up the largest group, followed by significant numbers of Dutch, Belgian, German, and Scandinavian homeowners. There is also a growing Spanish contingent, particularly families from Murcia and Cartagena drawn by the lifestyle and security.
The resort organises social events year-round: quiz nights, community barbecues, golf competitions, tennis and padel round-robins, Christmas and New Year celebrations, and charity events. For newcomers, this makes integration remarkably easy — most people report forming friendships within weeks of arriving.
English is widely spoken throughout the resort, and the on-site services cater to international residents. That said, a basic level of Spanish goes a long way in the surrounding area, and several language schools operate locally.
Security and Privacy
Hacienda del Álamo is a gated resort with controlled access. The main entrance is staffed, and the perimeter is fenced. Internal roads are private, well-maintained, and quiet — traffic is minimal, and the pace of life is deliberately slow.
This level of security is one of the primary reasons families choose the resort, particularly those with young children. Kids cycle freely, dogs are walked without leads on quiet streets, and there is a general sense of openness and trust that is increasingly rare.
Location and Connections
The resort sits near Fuente Álamo, a traditional Spanish market town with additional supermarkets, restaurants, banks, a medical centre, and schools — including an international school.
Key distances from the resort:
- Corvera International Airport (RMU): 15 minutes. Direct flights to London, Manchester, Amsterdam, Brussels, Düsseldorf, Oslo, and seasonal routes to other European cities.
- Cartagena: 25 minutes. Historic port city with Roman theatre, naval museum, fine dining, and a vibrant cultural scene.
- Murcia city centre: 35 minutes. Regional capital with cathedral, university, shopping, and gastronomy.
- Mazarrón beaches: 30 minutes. Traditional Spanish coast with uncrowded beaches and fresh seafood.
- Calblanque Natural Park: 40 minutes. Protected coastline with some of the most unspoilt beaches in the western Mediterranean.
- Mar Menor: 30 minutes. Europe’s largest saltwater lagoon — warm, calm waters ideal for sailing, kayaking, and swimming.
The AP-7 motorway connects the resort to the national road network. Alicante airport, with a wider range of international routes, is approximately 75 minutes north.
Property on the Resort
Hacienda del Álamo offers a range of property types to suit different budgets and lifestyles.
Existing Resale Properties
The resort has a mature stock of apartments, townhouses, and detached villas dating from the original phases of development. These range from compact 2-bedroom apartments in the Los Olivos and Spanish Village communities (from approximately €100,000–€150,000) to large detached villas on private plots with pools (from €250,000 upwards).
Resale properties offer the advantage of being available immediately — many are fully furnished and ready to live in or rent out.
New Build: Omala Residences
Omala Residences represents the latest phase of development at Hacienda del Álamo. These are contemporary Mediterranean villas designed with an emphasis on space, natural materials, and energy efficiency.
Six villa models are currently available — from the single-floor Villa Melissa (from €335,300) to the spacious 4-bedroom Villa Antia (from €607,200). All include private pools, landscaped gardens, garages, and access to a communal pool.
Omala villas are built to A+ energy certification — the highest standard in Spain — with passive solar design, high-performance insulation, and locally sourced materials. Completion for current phases is expected Q4 2026.
New Build: La Hacienda (Apartments and Villas)
The broader La Hacienda project, developed by Hozono Global through Abala Real Estate Development, will introduce over 1,100 new homes including apartments, townhouses, and additional villa types at various price points. This multi-phase development will reshape the northwest section of the resort over the coming years.
Running Costs
Owning property at Hacienda del Álamo involves several recurring costs:
- Community fees: Vary by property type. Apartments typically pay €80–€150/month; detached villas €40–€80/month (lower because they maintain their own plots).
- IBI (property tax): Annual municipal tax based on cadastral value. For a typical villa, expect €400–€800/year.
- Garbage tax: Approximately €60–€90/year.
- Utilities: Electricity, water, and internet. An A+ rated Omala villa will cost significantly less to run than an older property — expect €50–€80/month for a well-insulated modern home.
- Insurance: Home and contents insurance from approximately €250–€400/year.
Is Hacienda del Álamo Right for You?
The resort suits a particular kind of buyer. If you value security, community, sport, and a quiet pace of life — and you’re comfortable being 30 minutes from the nearest beach rather than on it — Hacienda del Álamo delivers on every front.
It is not a beachfront development. It is not a party resort. It is a place where mornings start with birdsong and coffee on the terrace, afternoons involve golf or padel or simply doing nothing at all, and evenings are spent at a restaurant in the Spanish Village or around a barbecue with neighbours.
For many people, that is exactly the point.
